Regular readers of my blog will know that I am a HUGE fan of my slow cooker. I have shared several slow cooker recipes in recent months, and have more in my drafts.
Today I am going to share with you my Russell Hobbs slow cooker review. The model that I have is the Russell Hobbs 23200 3.5l slow cooker and this is quite a new addition to my household. You can see my specific slow cooker model by clicking *here.
I previously had a cheap model, that I got from a supermarket for £10. When this was knocked in the cupboard it got a huge dent in it, so it was time for a replacement!
The ceramic inside the slow cooker then started to crack and I lost my confidence in using it overnight while in bed. I decided on this model, after reading a number of favourable reviews.
Russell Hobbs slow cooker review
This is a 3.5l slow cooker that is designed for cooking at least 4-5 portions of food. We are currently a family of 2, soon to be 3. I personally like to use my slow cooker to prepare a number of dishes.
These include slow cooker whole chicken, pulled pork, stock, pasta sauce, chilli and much more. With this slow cooker I am able to cook up a batch of meat, such as chicken breast, for making sandwiches for the freezer.
I often have leftovers and these can then be frozen for quick and easy midweek meals.
There are three settings on this slow cooker. 1, which is low. 2, which is high. 3, which is a keep warm function. This is ideal for us as I have been eating much smaller meals while pregnant.
With the keep warm function I am able to leave my slow cooker turned on and return for more hot food, if I want to, a short while later.
The cooking pot is fantastic, as it can be taken to the table to serve dinner. This is ideal when I have made chicken fajitas, for guests. I can just carry the pot over to my table and then everyone can help themselves. By microwaving my flour tortillas everyone can serve themselves.
The pot is strong and can be placed into the dishwasher too. Personally I soak my pot overnight, usually, and in the morning it just needs a quick rinse. There is a glass lid with this pot so you can see the progress your food is making without removing the lid.
Staying organised with a slow cooker
When I am having an organised day I will prepare bags of slow cooker dinners for the freezer. I can then place this in the slow cooker pot, in the fridge, overnight.
In the morning I place the pot into the slow cooker, put it on number 2 for 20 minutes and then turn it down to 1. I find that most dinners will cook in 3-4 hours on number 2 and 5-8 hours on number 1.
I have also left food overnight, such as porridge and chicken stock for 10-12 hours with no problems.
If you have a little less time on your hands, and don't want to make all of your sauces from scratch, you don't have to. I have personally used several jars of sauce recently, including a butter chicken sauce, with great results.
Just add your meat, vegetables and sauce into the slow cooker and cook on low for the day. At dinnertime, you can serve with whatever side you want, even just a microwave rice sachet if you're short on time or effort.
A slow cooker is a fantastic way to save time and effort when it comes to making dinner. With a little forward preparation, such as meal planning with mince, you can save money and have delicious home-made dinners every night.
Russell Hobbs slow cooker – 1 or 2?
Wondering which setting to use? I always put it on setting 2 for at least 20 minutes, sometimes 1 hour, before turning it down to cook for 5-12 hours depending on the dish.
This helps you to heat the pot and also starts the cooking process. If you *buy the Russell Hobbs chalkboard slow cooker then this has self-explanatory heat settings.
